CSNA Chapter One Summer Workshop


Summer is a time for meeting new friends, catching up with old friends, and learning new skills. The SoCal Professional Development Summer Workshop welcomed more than 300 attendees to the Southern California Energy Resource Center in Downey. Dr. Robert Lewis led his Professional Development Team for CSNA, Chapter One. Team members included Emily Miramontes, Kerry Benson, Suzy Sayre, Cristina Obregon, Sue Kilgour, Christie Ford, and Maria Calderon. The day started with a presentation on Customer Service by Teresa Stretch from the Institute of Child Nutrition. Anna Apoian led two breakout sessions focused on Lunch Shaming and Adult Nutrition. Chefs Gina Christian and Will Morris led cooking demonstrations on Fast Scratch Cooking. Ms. Stretch hosted three additional sessions centered on Cashiering, Reimbursable Meals, and Utilizing the Cafeteria as a Classroom. Suzy Sayre and Elizabeth Powell welcomed nutrition directors to their workshop Hot Topics for Directors. Lunch was provided by Jay’s Catering and included a baked potato bar, salad bar, vegetarian chili, fruits, and assorted deli sandwiches. The day ended with raffle prize drawings while each participant received four Continuing Education Credits (4 CEUs). Yes, summer is a time for sharing, learning and having fun!
